Getting around

Renting cars - "Rental Cars" are readily available and come in a variety of makes and models, it is advisable though to rent a 4x4 to guarantee access to all desirable locations. It is a good idea to reserve your rental car in advance if you will be traveling to CR durning the high season(Dec-March). Defensive driving in Costa Rica is a must and seatbelts are the law so use them.

TAKING THE BUS -Getting around in Costa Rica is easy and inexpensive if you go with public transport. There is bus service to every town and city, and high-quality buses serving the major tourist destinations. Ask locals to find the appropriate bus stop to get you to your desired location, Ticos are well known for being helpful and quite friendly.

Taxi Cabs -Taxis are plentiful in most areas and relatively inexpensive. Taxis are required by law to use their meters(locally known as "La Maria") so make sure they turn it on. Use only licensed taxis, they are easily identified by their red color and yellow triangular Taxi ID located on both sides of the car, pirate cabs are an unecessary risk and should be avoided unless completely necessary and you are not travelling alone.
